Class Description:
ASA101 Basic Keelboat Sailing – Practice Sail Program. Only students who are already certified to ASA101 from any ASA Sailing School and want to retake the class qualify for the Practice Sail Program. Please see the Practice Sail Program page for more details.
ASA101 Basic Keelboat Sailing is a beginner level sailing class which is taught all on the water on our Catalina Capri Sailboat named ‘Superna’, so no classroom is needed. ASA101 Basic Keelboat Sailing classes go from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM both days of the class.
ASA101 Basic Keelboat Sailing Practice Sail Program Students receive our internally developed Captain In You ASA101 Basic Keelboat Study Guide, that has proven effective in helping new students quickly learn the information required to gain ASA certification, and cruise safely on their own.
Students learn all they need to get started sailing, including sailing vocabulary, principles of sailing, how to rig/hoist/set sails safely and correctly to obtain proper sail trim using halyards, outhaul, boom vang, mainsheet, jib sheets, winches, and traveler. Also learn to steer both under engine and sail, learn to come about and jibe properly, learn about safety equipment, proper commands at the helm, crew overboard recovery, learn to head up and bear away, sail on various points of sail including close hauled, close reach, beam reach, and broad reach, and much more.
Students sail on beautiful and safe Lake Nockamixon which is part of Nockamixon State Park. Please see the Location page for more information on Nockamixon State Park.
Class size: 2-4 typically, with a maximum of four students allowed.
Prerequisites: ASA101 Certification.
Minimum age- 16
Price includes the following:
- Captain In You ASA101 Basic Keelboat Study Guide.
- Bring your own or use our Type V Personal Flotation Device for free.
Students should bring a bag lunch and water or soft drinks both days for when we have lunch on board our yacht.
Students either commute daily to attend the class or stay in local Hotels and Restaurants in Beautiful Bucks County, PA.
